this time last year...

This time last year, I was in Italy, drinking cheap farmer's wine on the patio of some villa, giggling with my girlfriends that we were in Italy drinking cheap farmer's wine on the patio of some villa.
This time last year, from Italy, I was watching Obama become the nominee; this time last year, I was happily uncoupled, living with my best Roomie in the world, and eating way too much cheese.
This time, now?
Because of the imminent collapse of Illinois' fiscal infrastructure, I'm redoing my resume because the center is not going to hold very long in the non profit human services sector. (Hey, anyone need a cracker jack government relations/communications gal who can sell just about anything?)
I'm happily, yet a little warily, coupled. Ding, the queen of the long time running, regularly scheduled, 'Last Tango in Paris'-type frolic is going steady with a NewGuy who has no college degree. (Hey. I'm bougie. It matters.)
I'm living in a cute, vintage apartment by myself now and Italy is a really far off place. I've cut down on the cheese, I'm exercising, I'm no longer out of breath, I'm down a size or two in my clothes - but what I wouldn't give right now to be at some roadside tavern, drinking cheap wine and eating some sacred fat (i.e., lardo di colonnata.)
So. This time last year: where were you and where are you now?
